We helped the most devastated family we met all day. The lady’s mother died the first day of the storm. Her uncle was a terminal cancer patient bedridden in the back barn-like structure, lacking power for his oxygen treatments (he has sadly since passed away). The daughter was a newly widowed mom taking care of her mother, uncle, and 2 kids – who now has to deal with 2 funerals. We provided mom a needed birthday present of clothes, supplies and house clean-up. We worked with the daughter to arrange a plan to get her mother into safe living conditions, a plan of action to apply for federal relief to rebuild their home, and facilitated a financial donation through a partnering organization.
